Black Mountain sits where the Swannanoa River runs straight through the middle of town, at the southern end of the Black Mountain range of the Blue Ridge. That river is exactly why Hurricane Helene hit this town as hard as anywhere in the region: the Swannanoa River bridge on Blue Ridge Road was swept away by floodwater, and large oaks, pines, and maples came down across roads, power lines, and homes. If your property backs up to the river or sits low relative to it, that history is worth knowing before storm season, not after.

Black Mountain is also an older, established town (median age north of 51) with a lot of mature tree cover on properties that have had decades to grow into their root systems and, in some cases, outgrow their footing. We work I-40 (exits 64 and 65) into town regularly and know the difference between a tree that needs a trim and one that's a genuine hazard to a house or a driveway.
